Overview of the Pre-K-3 Program
PreK-3 is an exciting year! For most children, it is their first experience in a school setting. From the very first day, students learn that the relationships they build with their peers and teachers are invaluable at St.Andrew’s. We begin the year learning each others names and recognizing classroom expectations. The PreK-3 curriculum is incorporated into fun, weekly themes – so, for instance, students learn to create patterns while gathering apples and sorting pumpkins – two favorite fall themes! In the upper grades at St.Andrew’s, each class is expected to contribute hours of service to others, so in preschool, we dedicate each month to introducing various helpers in our community and learning about the jobs they do (police officer, firefighter, postal workers, and more!). We also work with our preschoolers to develop physically. They practice fine motor and gross motor skills through assembling puzzles, manipulating play-dough and stacking blocks. In addition, every student in our PreK-3 program attends daily resource classes – art, music, physical education, library, science, Mandarin Chinese, and computer.
Praise for the Pre-K-3 Program
“We were so excited to learn that SAES was offering a 3 year old class this year. It was important to us that with the transition of a move and new schools our children could attend the same school. Also, how often does your 3 year old’s teacher have a Masters degree? I heard nothing but praise about Mrs. Franklin. And with the availability of mid day and after school care, it made the choice easy for this working mom! We are very pleased with our decision!” – Jennifer – Smithfield
“When it came time to start thinking about pre-school for our 3 year old daughter, St. Andrews was the clear choice for our family. Our oldest daughter is a 5th grader who began at St. Andrews in the Pre-K 4 program, and we were delighted when the Pre-K 3 program was added. We knew from experience that the faculty and staff would treat our 3 year old with warmth and compassion, and that she would receive the individualized attention required at this tender age. In addition, the resources available to students at the Pre-K level are incredible, and the extended day program gives busy parents flexible options. Knowing that my preschooler is building a strong foundation for Kindergarten and beyond, gives us great joy.” – Allison & JT – Newport News
